Kelly Clarkson thinks her weight “represents happiness” in her life

The 35-year-old singer has often faced criticism over her weight, but has said she doesn’t feel the pressure to shed any pounds, because her curves help define how “happy” she is in her life

She said: "It's when I'm fat that I'm happy. People think, 'Oh, there's something wrong with her. She's putting on weight.' I'm like, 'Oh, no! I'm sorry, but that represents happiness in my emotional world.’ For me, when I'm skinny is usually when I'm not doing well.”

And the ‘Piece By Piece’ hitmaker - who is stepmother to Savannah, 16, and 11-year-old Seth, and has River, three, and 19-month-old Remington with husband Brandon Blackstock - doesn’t “gauge her life” on other people’s opinions of her, as she thinks that would send her into a “constant state of panic”.

She added to Redbook magazine: "If you gauge your life on what other people think, you're going to be in a constant state of panic trying to please everyone. People should just concentrate on their own lives and their own health and their own happiness, and whatever that looks like for you, be happy with it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly recently revealed that after being pressured into being skinny after her 2004 sophomore album 'Breakaway' propelled her into the spotlight, she contemplated suicide because she was so “miserable”.

She said: "When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself. I was miserable, like inside and out, for four years of my life. But no one cared, because aesthetically you make sense."

The 'Because of You' singer - who previously battled an eating disorder when she was in high school - admits the period was a "very dark time" in her career.

She added: "I thought the only way out was quitting. I, like, wrecked my knees and my feet, because all I would do is put in headphones and run. I was at the gym all the time."
