Robert Pattinson says the secret to his success is "f***ing up auditions"

The 31-year-old Hollywood hunk joked that before he got his big break as vampire Edward Cullen in 'The Twilight Saga' he was terrible at auditions

Speaking at Vulture Festival Los Angeles, he said: "All you have to do is f**k up auditions for five years and then get "Twilight'."

Pattinson played Cullen in five films and those performances and his real-life romance with his co-star Kirsten Stewart - who played Edward's human lover Bella Swan in the fantasy series - made him one of the most famous men in the world.

Robert also opened up about his new movie 'Good Time', which he called "the best story ever".

He explained: "This guy lived in this hole in the ground and burrowed through into someone’s house. He would sneak into the daughter’s bedroom every day. It was a parent’s absolute nightmare. He lived in a hole attached to these people’s house."

Robert had to lose a considerable amount of weight for the role and he was inspired by his co-star Guy Pearce from the 2014 movie 'The Rover'.

He said: "I remember going into his room and there were hundreds of cans of tuna. But, by the end, you smell very strange."

Meanwhile, Robert recently revealed that he missed out on going to college because of 'Harry Potter'.

The actor was only 17 when he starred in 2005 film 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' as student wizard Cedric Diggory, but revealed due to the filming schedule he had to make a choice as to whether to continue his studies or appear in the hit movie franchise.

Pattinson picked the latter and it set him on a path to movie stardom and his most famous role in the 'Twilight Saga'.

He said: "It was so nice to be a part of it. That, more than anything, changed my life. It's the reason I didn't go to college. It went so far over schedule, I couldn't go. It was supposed to be four months, but it ended up being 10 or 11. I'd turn up to set every day but not work for weeks at a time.

"I was 17 and I was the only person who wasn't in school. I'd just hang about."
