David Cassidy has passed away aged 67

The ‘Partridge Family’ star had been rushed to a Florida hospital last week where he was placed in a medically induced coma after suffering from organ failure, and his publicist Jo-Ann Geffen confirmed he had lost his battle and passed away on Tuesday (21.11.17)

She said in a statement: "David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”

David’s nephew and ‘The Voice’ contestant Jack Cassidy also confirmed the news, as he took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the tragic passing of his uncle.

He wrote: “My uncle David Cassidy has sadly passed away tonight... & in the process of mourning I can't help but thank God for the joy that he brought to countless millions of people! I don't think I'm alone in saying that we will all miss him. God Speed! (sic)”

The ‘Could It Be Forever’ singer - who had daughter Katie Cassidy with Sherry William and son Beau Cassidy with his ex-wife Sue Shifrin - was previously said to be in a critical condition and in need of a liver transplant, but insiders believed the search for a healthy organ was “futile".

One source said previously: "There's really no issue anymore for a transplant. It's futile.”

Whilst another added: "It's looking grim.”

Prior to his struggle with organ failure, the ‘Daydreamer’ singer had revealed earlier this year that he was also battling dementia, which is a persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease and marked by memory disorders and personality changes.

At the time, David took to his website to share a touching message where he thanked his fans for supporting him throughout his career, and for sending "messages of concern and care" during his struggle with the illness.
