Chase banned two years over cocaine test

Former New Zealand Maori rugby league player Rangi Chase has been banned from the game for two years after testing positive for cocaine in the UK.

Former New Zealand Maori and England rugby league player Rangi Chase has been banned for two years after testing positive for cocaine.

UK Anti-Doping announced the ban on the 31-year-old Widnes Vikings halfback after benzoylecgonine - a metabolite of cocaine - was found in a sample he provided following an in-competition test on July 14.

"Rangi Chase has tarnished his career with this sanction," said UKAD chief executive Nicole Sapstead.

"His two-year ban serves as a stark warning to athletes about the very real consequences of taking recreational drugs whilst competing in sport."

Former NRL player Chase played two matches for the Maori before moving north and representing England in eight matches between 2011 and 2013.
