Jennifer Lawrence admits her starring role in 'Mother!' damaged her relationship with Darren Aronofsky

The Academy Award-winning actress played the central role in the director's psychological horror film - which has divided fans and critics - and Jennifer has confessed that the movie had a negative impact on her relationship with her then-boyfriend

Jennifer shared: "We'd be on the tour together, I'd come back to the hotel and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is the movie, and he comes back and that's all he wants to talk about.

"I was doing double duty of trying to be a supportive partner while also being like, 'Can I please, for the love of God, not think about 'Mother!' for one second?'"

'Mother!' proved to be a polarising movie, and Jennifer claims that Darren allowed the criticism to bother him, which ultimately hindered their romance.

By contrast, the actress - who dated Darren for 12 months - tried to avoid reading negative reviews of the film they made together.

Speaking to Adam Sandler for Variety magazine's Actors on Actors series, she explained: "He would start reading me reviews, and I finally was like, 'It's not healthy. I'm not going to do it, because if I read it, I start getting defensive.' Especially because it's my man."

Jennifer insisted she's never felt a reason to defend the movie and that she remains proud of 'Mother!', even though it has divided opinion among fans.

The Hollywood star - who has previously dated the likes of Nicholas Hoult and Chris Martin - said: "I don't want to sound in an interview that I'm defending what we're doing in any way. It's awesome, what we did.

"The people who hate it really hate it. But it's nothing that needs to be defended. If I read a negative review, I just feel defensive."
