A 19-year-old German man has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death after colliding with a truck in the Coromandel last month.
Felix Eisele pulled out in front of the vehicle on State Highway 25 on November 24 which resulted in his girlfriend, 19-year-old Melanie Dangel, suffering fatal serious head injuries.
The pair were travelling from Hamilton to Hot Water Beach in the Coromandel Peninsula when the crash left both needing to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters.
They were flown to hospital and Ms Dangel was placed on life support. She never recovered and died last week.
Judge Merelina Burnett remanded Eisele on bail and asked the teenager to engage in the restorative justice before his sentence at the Thames District Court on January 15.
He faces a maximum sentence of three months in prison.
