One dead after truck rolls in Northland

A person has died after a truck rolled in Northland on Saturday morning - the eighth road death of the holiday period.

A person is dead and another is hurt after a truck rolled in Northland.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Far North Road in Waiharara about 8am on Saturday.

St John Ambulance said one person had died at the scene while another was taken to Kaitaia with moderate injuries.

Police said one lane of the road was blocked and asked drivers in the area to watch their speed.

The death puts the road toll for the holiday period - which started last week and will end on January 3 - at eight.

During the 2016-17 Christmas period there were 19 deaths on roads.
