    Three hospitalised in Christchurch brawl

    Three people have been taken to hospital after reports of fighting on a Christchurch street.


    Three people have ended up in hospital, one seriously hurt, following a street brawl in Christchurch.

    Police say they arrested a number of people following reports of fighting on the corner of St Asaph Street in the central city about 2am on Sunday - but that it's not yet clear how the incident is connected to the trio's injuries.

    "Enquiries are ongoing in relation to the injuries sustained by the three people who have been hospitalised," a spokesperson said.

    One person was in serious condition in Christchurch Hospital while two others had moderate injuries.

    Officers were at the scene overnight and a cordon remained up around a bar on St Asaph Street on Sunday morning.

    Police said locals could expect officers in the area during the day.

    Street diversions were in place, with parts of the road were closed to traffic.
