Police investigating a fire that destroyed an historic building near Queenstown say they have spoken to a couple they were seeking.
The couple were believed to have been staying in Mount Aurum Homestead in Skippers Canyon on the night of the fire.
On Tuesday, the pair contacted police, who say they are satisfied the two had reasons for not coming forward before now.
No arrests have been made and police say they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the fire.
The homestead is a category-two listed historic place dating back to the 19th century and is next to a Department of Conservation campsite.
Campers there alerted emergency services to the fire in the early hours of New Year's Day and about 20 firefighters attended.
