    Police discourage Auckland vigilantes

Police are discouraging men who say they're on a crusade to identify men they have accused of being pedophiles.

Two Auckland men claiming to be exposing strangers as pedophiles could be putting themselves and others in danger, police say.

Tommy Rees and Adam Holland have posted videos to Facebook of themselves confronting men who they allege were expecting to meet a 15-year-old boy.

The pair claim to have been using a fake Tinder account, purporting to be an underage boy, to catch pedophiles.

Videos showing the men have been posted to Facebook with captions that include their full names and occupations, making them easily identifiable.

"We strongly discourage members of the public from taking matters into their own hands as they could place themselves and members of the public at risk," a police spokeswoman told NZ Newswire on Wednesday.

Police instead say the pair should be contacting police who will take complaints seriously and follow them up as appropriate.

But the men have no plans to stop their crusade.

"We will continue to catch child groomers online and expose them on camera," Mr Holland wrote in response to the police urges.

Police have not responded to questions about whether they're following up allegations made by the men.
