A man has died after being dropped off at Tauranga Hospital with critical injuries.
He was dropped off around 12.20pm on Wednesday and was being treated by hospital staff when he died a short time later.
Police say they are working to establish how the man received his injuries and are making inquiries in the area.
Also in Tauranga, the armed offenders squad has been called out to Gate Pa.
Police say squad members are assisting in executing a search warrant at a property on Wilrose Place in relation to an ongoing inquiry.
It is not clear if the two incidents are related.
