    Seddon quakes rattle central NZ

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake near the Marlborough town of Seddon has been followed up by a later 3.6 rattle.

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake near Seddon on Saturday morning has been followed by a 3.6 in the evening.

The first "moderate" quake struck 20km south of the town about 8.12am on Saturday at a depth of 11km, according to Geonet.

At 6.51pm a magnitude 3.6 was recorded, centred 25 km south-east of Seddon at depth of 18km.

In 2013, a 6.5 quake struck near the Marlborough town, causing damage as far afield as Wellington, and the area has been seismically active since.
