    Firefighters battle Christchurch blaze

Sixteen firefighters have been battling a blaze at a single-storey building on Blenheim Road in Christchurch.

Christchurch fire crews have been battling a blaze at a single-storey building in Sockburn.

Emergency services received multiple calls about a fire on Blenheim Road, near Cable Street, about 6.20am.

Four trucks and 16 firefighters were at the scene on Thursday morning to contain the fire threatening to engulf the 100-metre-by-40-metre building.

Southern Fire spokesperson Mau Barbara said the fire was now under control and was not being treated as suspicious.

An investigator had been called to examine the scene.
