Central keep T20 play-off hopes alive

Central Districts have thumped Wellington by 56 runs and are now in a three-way battle for the final spot in the Twenty20 Super Smash play-offs.

Central Districts have kept their Super Smash Twenty20 play-off hopes alive, thumping Wellington by 56 runs at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth.

While Northern Districts and Auckland are comfortably clear at the top of the table, there's a three-way battle between Canterbury and Central on 18, and Wellington (16) for the final spot.

CD set Wellington a challenging target in reaching 209-6 on Friday, set up by an 84-run sixth wicket stand between Dane Cleaver (43 off 25 balls) and Ben Wheeler (47 off 22).

In reply, Wellington lost wickets early and regularly, Tom Blundell's 53 the only high point before they were bowled out in 19 overs for 153.

In Sunday's final round, Wellington meet Central again, this time at the Basin Reserve, while Canterbury face Northern Districts in Hamilton and Auckland host Otago.
