A police patrol car has crashed in the Auckland suburb of Otahuhu.

The police car was on the way to a job when the crash happened at 11.50am on Sunday, a police spokeswoman says.

The police car and an oncoming car collided, and the police car then hit the back of a second car.

The driver of the second car sustained whiplash injuries and was taken to Middlemore Hospital as a precaution.

The police car was on Great South Rd, near Fairburn Road, when the crash occurred, the NZ Herald reported, citing an unnamed witness.
