    Motorcycle crashes cause injuries

A pillion passenger is injured after a motorcycle crash north of Auckland, while in Manawatu a motorcyclist has been found injured in a drain.

The pillion passenger of a motorcycle is seriously injured after a crash north of Auckland, and a motorcyclist has been found injured in a drain in Manawatu.

The pillion passenger was injured in a crash between a motorcycle and car on State Highway 1 near Kaipara Flats Road, in the Dome Forest region on Sunday afternoon, police said.

One lane of the road is open but traffic is moving very slowly.

Shortly before midday on Sunday, a motorcyclist in his 50s was found in a roadside drain near Apiti by a passer-by, according to the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter.

The man had come off the road, ending up in the drain.

He was flown to Palmerston North Hospital for treatment.
