Sam Smith is in "real love" with Brandon Flynn

The 'Too Good At Goodbyes' singer has only been dating the '13 Reasons Why' actor, 24, for a four months, but he's implied it's serious between them as he feels really content with how their relationship is going and is pleased he fell for the hunk

During his performance at Nova's Red Room in Sydney, Sam said: "Real love is never ever a waste of time. I feel really happy and positive in my love life right now."

The 25-year-old singer is known for his heartbreak tracks but he's admitted his new next collection of songs will be "happy love songs" because he's so loved up right now.

He said recently: "It's exciting seeing people walking the streets and fighting for what they believe in. It's nice to see people protesting - that excites me. On a personal level, I'm in a relationship right now and for the first time, I think I deserve to be happy. I'm actually asking myself if I'm going to be writing some happy love songs soon."

Sam is very content with his sexuality but he thinks it's only been in the last few years that he's "properly" become a gay man because he was previously in love with a straight guy and wasted so much time and energy pining of him.

He explained: "In the past few years, I became a gay man properly. When I wrote that first album, I was in love with a straight man, he didn't love me back, and I was very comfortable in my longing. With this record ['The Thrill Of It All'], I became a gay man. I started having proper relationships with men. Sometimes they were in the wrong and treated me in a bad way, and sometimes I was in the wrong."
