NZ draw Lebanon, Uzbekistan for Fed Cup

New Zealand have been drawn against Lebanon and top seeds Uzbekistan for their Fed Cup group-two tournament in Bahrain.

New Zealand have been drawn against Lebanon and top seeds Uzbekistan for their Fed Cup group-two tournament in Bahrain.

Members of the Asia-Oceania conference, the Kiwis will take on their two opponents with Erin Routliffe and Jade Lewis leading the charge.

Emily Fanning and Katherine Westbury are also in the squad.

Only the group winner will progress to the Cup semi-finals, while the top two teams in the tournament will be promoted to Asia-Oceania group one.

Fed Cup captain Neil Carter admits his side will find it tough, but may find conditions on the ground suitable for their game.

They'll play Lebanon on Wednesday, followed by Uzbekistan on Thursday.

"The courts are super quick and the balls are super quick so it's about who gets to grip with the conditions on the day," Carter said.

"There won't be too many rallies."

Routliffe, 22, won the biggest title of her career to date this week by triumphing in an ITF Futures event in Egypt's Sharm El Sheikh.

She beat American Nadja Gilchrist 6-3 7-5 in the final.
