    Gisborne-BOP road reopening

State Highway 2 between Gisborne and Opotiki is close to fully reopening following a serious truck crash.

One lane of the main road between Gisborne and the Bay of Plenty has been re-opened following a serious truck crash which closed the main route.

"The recovery team has been working hard to clear the road after the truck overturned," police said in a statement just after 1pm on Friday.

"The road is expected to fully reopen within the next hour."

The truck driver appeared to be uninjured in the crash which overturned his vehicle on State Highway 2 at Matawai, about halfway between Gisborne and Opotiki, on Friday morning.
