Gemma Arterton thinks there's now an appetite to tackle sexual harassment within the movie industry

The 32-year-old actress has stressed the importance of the #MeToo movement - which started as a viral campaign to highlight the prevalence of sexual abuse - during her appearance on the red carpet before the BAFTA Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Sunday (18.02.18)

Gemma - who donned a black outfit for the bash to show solidarity with the anti-harassment movement - explained: "I think an incredible amount of work has been done in a very short amount of time, there is a real appetite for change, and this is the moment."

However, the British actress added that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done in order to achieve equality within the film business.

Gemma said: "We have so much more to do."

The 'Quantum of Solace' star attended the event with former sewing machine operators Eileen Pullen and Gwen Davis, who were involved with a three-week walkout at a factory in England in June 1968.

The women - whose efforts were highlighted in the 'Made In Dagenham'

movie in 2010 - campaigned to be paid the same as their male counterparts who were working at the plant at the time.

Gemma has been an outspoken critic of the movie industry for a number of years, and the actress previously admitted that the pay disparity between men and women is "shocking".

Speaking back in 2015, she explained: "The difference between what men and women get paid in my industry is shocking.

"On one job I must have been paid a tenth of what my male counterpart was getting."
