Oscar Isaac knew he wanted to marry her after he saw his pregnant wife take care of his sick mother

The 38-year-old actor wed Elvira Lind - with whom he has 10-month-old son Eugene - in March last year, and whilst he admits there were “tons of reasons” why he decided to marry the documentary filmmaker, one moment which stands out to him is watching the way she helped take care of Oscar’s mother, who sadly passed away the month before their wedding

Asked why he decided to marry Danish-born Elvira, he said: “She’s Danish - she’s not a citizen, and she was very pregnant, and there was an element of figuring out, ‘Well, where are we going to be?’ And us wanting to be a family unit a bit more.

“But, you know, at the time, right before it happened, my mom was ill, and so I saw her carrying my child, bathing my sick mom - seeing her do that, I just thought, ‘I want to be with this person forever and ever.’”

The ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ actor admits the first part of 2017 was hectic for him after witnessing his mother pass away in February, followed by his marriage in March and the birth of his son in April, and says he still hasn’t quite processed the chain of events.

He added: “I just wanted to take that extra step as well. And so my mom passed in February and we got married in March and our son was born in April. It was a wild year. I think I’ll be processing it for the rest of my life. There’s a little bit of an untethered feeling since then. A lot of stuff that I felt I knew and had direction about now just feels a little bit disconnected and floating around.”

Oscar believes his wife is an “incredible woman”, and praised her for looking after their son whilst he was away starring in a theatre production of ‘Hamlet’.

Speaking to GQ Style magazine, he said: “It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, and my wife, God bless her, was with a newborn at home while I’m doing ‘Hamlet’, and that was a lot to deal with. She’s an incredible woman.”
