Man suffers gunshot to leg in Pukekohe

A man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg after a shooting in Pukekohe, and a nearby school was put in lockdown as a precaution.

A man who was shot in the leg in Pukekohe has been taken to hospital - while a school that was put into lockdown is back open.

Just after 12.40pm on Friday, police rushed to a Hogan Street address where a man in his 50's had a gunshot wound to his leg, police say.

Police were searching for the offender after he fled on foot following the shooting. A male is now in custody and is assisting police.

It's believed the man with the gunshot wound has non-life threatening injuries.

The school was closed after the shooting as a precaution but police say there is no longer a threat to public safety.
