A Porangahau man has been fined after he left two whitebait nets unattended in the Porangahau River in August last year.
The Department of Conservation laid two charges against Brendon John Taylor, one of using more than one net to catch whitebait, and the other for being more than 10m from his net.
Both are a breach of Whitebait Fishing Regulations.
Taylor appeared at the Waipukurau District Court on April 13 where he pleaded guilty to both charges.
He received fines totalling $600 and was ordered to pay $130 in court costs. His fishing equipment was forfeited to the Crown.
DOC was tipped off by a member of the public and when DOC officers approached Taylor he admitted to setting the nets when he knew it was an offence.
