Drugs, cash, firearm seized in Alexandra

Two people are to appear in court after police received information from members of the community about the distribution of methamphetamine in Alexandra.

Police have seized cash, drugs and an illegal firearm following a search warrant in Alexandra.

Three people were arrested in the Tuesday morning raid and a substantial amount of cash, several grams of methamphetamine, cannabis and an illegal firearm, along with loaded magazine, were seized at the Centennial Avenue address, police say.

Police say the search warrant and subsequent arrests occurred without incident and two people, a 29-year-old male and a 20-year-old female, were due to appear at the Alexandra District Court on Tuesday afternoon.

They have been charged with possession for supply of methamphetamine, possession for supply of cannabis and unlawful possession of a restricted firearm.

The other person was released without charge.

Police had received information from members of the community about the distribution of methamphetamine in the wider Alexandra area and Detective Sergeant Brian Cameron said police wanted to thank them for their help which led to the arrests.

''Alexandra Police do not tolerate the supply of illegal drugs in our community and remind people that while you may think your information is minor, it matters to us,'' he said.
