    Christchurch stadium decision welcomed

The decision to keep Christchurch's Metro Sports Facility and the new stadium as two separate sites is being welcomed by the sports community.

The Government was contemplating cutting costs by putting both projects on one site, but it's opted to keep them separate.

The Metro Sports Facility will be near Hagley Park... while the stadium is slated for a site on Madras Street in the centre of the city.

Sport Canterbury CEO Julyan Falloon says the Metro facility is more aligned to what's already there.

He says it'll have a close connection to the health precinct, Hagley's Community College and Hagley Park, rather than near bars and pubs where the stadium is set to go.

Julyan Falloon says he's confident the government will deliver the sports facility on their proposed timeline before the end of 2021.
