Productivity Commission wants to turn waste into electricity
Environmental organisations are backing an idea to turn waste into cost effective electricity.
30 April 2018
The Productivity Commission released a report on what we need to do to reach the goal of a low emissions economy.
They want us to burn the methane produced by food and agricultural waste, to generate electricity.
Environment Conservation Organisations of New Zealand Co-Chair Barry Weeber says cost issues are the main barrier to wide scale use of this idea.
He says changes in price structure which take into account our emissions, will make it a lot more economic, driving down prices.
