Women now make up 40 percent of the MPs in our Parliament.
Last night National list MP Nicola Willis gave her maiden speech in the House - she brings the number of female MPs up to 48.
National's spokesperson for Women Paula Bennett says boasting the highest proportion of female MPs in our history is cause for celebration.
She says we have come a long way since women gained the vote in 1893, and the first female MP was elected in 1933.
But Bennett says there's still more work to be done to ensure gender equality.
