There are calls to speed up the ban on using neonicotinoid pesticides after the Environmental Protection Authority announced a review.
Research shows the chemicals are highly toxic to a range of insects, including bees.
Soil and Health Association chair Graham Clarke says up to a third of all food on plants is only there because it's been pollinated.
He says observations in the past suggest when the bees go - a few years later so do we.
