Government searching for emergency accommodation for homeless
The Government is casting a wide net in its search for emergency accommodation for the homeless
4 May 2018
It's announced a 100 million dollar boost to its effort to tackle the problem.
Of that... 37-million will go towards providing an extra 1500 short-term places by the end of winter.
Housing Minister Phil Twyford says it'll need help to achieve its targets.
He says property such as seasonal worker accommodation could be used, and he's also interested in small plots of unused land which might be suitable for temporary housing.
A further 64-million dollars will go towards boosting the Housing First programme, which provides accommodation to the homeless, and for people with mental health issues.
