More than 300 people took part in events in Porirua and Upper Hutt - where police checked if car seats were properly installed.
Wellington District Roading Police Manager Jan Craig says 90 percent of the car seats had something wrong with them.
She says many parents simply didn't realise they were doing anything wrong.
Craig says they want their children to be safe, but often there's no one to help fit their car seats properly.
