A Christchurch man whose partner died just after the birth of their baby has been left struggling to get paid parental leave
8 May 2018
The baby was born at 33 weeks by C-section.
His father who wants to be known as Keith, works full-time and applied for paid parental leave.
He's now facing a heartbreaking decision - after MBIE told him he can't get it because his partner had been a stay-at-home mum - and SHE wasn't entitled.
Keith says one option is to give up his job and go on the DPB which he doesn't want to do, because his employer has been very supportive.
In a letter, the Ministry of Business Innovation and Development told Keith it understands how unfair the situation is, and its policy team is now aware of the gap in the legislation.
