An agribusiness expert believes we need to have a further conversation about peak cow numbers in Canterbury as the region bucks the national trend of decline

New figures from Statistics New Zealand show dairy cattle increased by three per cent year on year in Canterbury ... but dipped by one per cent nationwide.
Lincoln University Senior Lecturer Nic Lees says we should look at what other potential land uses there could be ... or the potential for looking at creating higher value products.
He says it's very clear the impact the industry is having on waterways in Canterbury ... and a decision's needed on how many cows the region wants.
