The Southern's were able to hang on to an early lead to walk away with a 39-27 victory over the Lions.
The Crusaders are back on top in Super Rugby after staging an amazing comeback against the Waratahs in Christchurch.
The visitors stunned the defending champions early on in the match scoring four first-half tries to race out to a 29-nil lead.
But three late first half tries the home side saw them close in on the Waratahs and eventually take the lead late in the second half.
The full time score 31-29.
The Warriors have been outclassed by the Sydney Roosters in their NRL match at Mount Smart Stadium.
The visitors have held the home side scoreless, running away with a 14 point first half lead to beat the Warriors 32-nil at full time.
Kiwi Danny Lee believes he can win the Players golf Championship.
The 27-year-old is sitting in a tie for second after the first two rounds of the competition - five shots back from leader Webb Simpson.
Lee is looking to become just the second kiwi to win the event, with Craig Perks winning the tournament in 2002.
Lee believes he can join Perks in the winners circle.

Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle would like to just sanction Israel Folau and move on, but admits the situation isn't so black and white.
The organisation has come under extreme pressure to punish Folau due to his has anti-gay messages posted on social media.
Castle says the issue is a complicated one as it covers inclusiveness and religion - and they don't want to be test case for freedom of speech within Australia.
She says the reality is all elements of the organisation need to be taken into consideration.
