Police say the teenager killed during a pursuit in Wellington was in the boot of the car when it crashed

The vehicle failed to stop for police on State Highway One, near the Terrace Tunnel, at about 2.45 this morning.

A single patrol car pursued the vehicle north along the motorway, before it crashed south of the Tawa interchange.

The teenager, who died at the scene, was one of six occupants in the vehicle, which was reported stolen yesterday.

Five people were taken to Wellington Hospital with moderate to minor injuries.
