Post-mortem to be undertaken in Invercargill on body of man who died in Queenstown rafting incident

Police and emergency services were called to Skippers Canyon on the Shotover River when a raft, occupied by a group of six Australian tourists and their guide, flipped.

The guide used CPR and a defibrillator to try and resuscitate the man but he died shortly after.

Police say they continue to make inquiries on behalf of the Coroner and with the assistance of Maritime NZ which is conducting its own investigation.

The rafting company, Queenstown Rafting, offered its deepest sympathy to the victim's family and friends.

The death is the second rafting tragedy to occur on the river this year after Whitewater rafting guide Keith Haare died in March.
