Two Air New Zealand flights bound for Queenstown were struck by lightning yesterday afternoon - and rerouted to Christchurch.
Passenger Jason Epps-Eades says there was a loud sound, a flash of light that went through the plane, then a burnt smell for a few minutes.
Air New Zealand says the A320 aircraft underwent standard engineering checks in Christchurch - but lightning strikes are common and they're prepared.
