Rafael Nadal has enhanced his overwhelming favourtism for next week's French tennis Open

The Spaniard has won a record 8th Rome Masters title after coming back from a break down in the final set to beat defending champion Sascha Zverev 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 in the final.

Nadal chases an 11th French Open title on the back of clay court tournament wins in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome with his only defeat coming in the quarter finals of Madrid last week.

He also regains the world number one ranking from Roger Federer.

Meanwhile Ukraine's Elina Svitolina has retained her women's title in Rome with the Ukrainian beating Romanian world number one Simona Halep 6-love 6-4 in the final.
