The Corrections Minister has confirmed that plans to build a mega-prison at Waikeria are off the table

Kelvin Davis says National's plan for a two thousand 500 bed prison at the rural Waikato prison have been scrapped.

But he says the Government's still deciding what it wants to do instead.

He says they're looking at all options to deal with the rising prison population, and our current capacity crisis.

Kelvin Davis says he's going to take the time he needs to ensure the right decision is made.
