Maddie Poppe has won this year's 'American Idol' - and bagged herself a boyfriend from the show

The 20-year-old singer was crowned the first winner of ABC's reboot of the popular talent contest on Monday night (21.05.18) with her single 'Going Going Gone', and after beating runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson - who came second - to the title, the pair revealed they are in fact an item

In the last 15 minutes of the live final, Caleb told host Ryan Seacrest: "Well Maddie is my pal and I've known her since the beginning of Hollywood week. And she actually happens to be my girlfriend."

Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan all looked surprised by the couple's announcement.

The lovers then proceeded to perform a duet together of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow', in which they held hands and showed off their feelings for one another.

Seacrest then announced that they had landed themselves a trip to Disney's Aulani resort in Hawaii.

After the show, 19-year-old Caleb took to Twitter to gush about his girlfriend's big win and told her "not to forget" him when she's famous.

Alongside a picture of the pair hugging on stage, he wrote: "MY GIRLFRIEND WON AMERICAN IDOL!!! No one deserved it more than you babe. I am honored to know you and even more honored to call you mine. Don't forget about me. I love you (sic)"

Maggie has bagged herself $250,000, a headline performance at the Hollywood Bowl and a recording contract with Hollywood Records and she was left speechless following her victory.

She said: "I don't have any words to describe this really.

"I can't believe people believed in me this much just to make it to the top two with Caleb.

"To actually have been named the winner of this show is incredible.

"I got to be who I wanted to be and the fact that I am here and I can tell you that I won the show is doing exactly what I wanted to do and I didn't have to change myself for anybody is pretty incredible."

On the night, all three judges took to the stage to perform, along with the likes of Hootie & the Blowfish's Darius Rucker, Nick Jonas and Patti LaBelle.
