Vaughan Wenham hit it around midday Saturday, while riding with his step-son.
He was taken to North Shore Hospital and is now recovering at home with a swollen throat and whiplash.
A police spokesman says the wire was like those that are used for fencing stock.
He says the incident appears to be an accident and no further police action is being taken.
Police are advising everyone riding in the forest to stick to the tracks and to not venture off the sign-posted path.
However, Wenham's brother Darren says he was riding within the bounds of the park.
