A woman refunded 12-hundred dollars after an aged-care facility charged extra for her husband's "premium" room believes other Kiwis will be owed thousands of dollars

So-called "premium" rooms can cost anything between 50-dollars to 400-dollars a week for extras such as an en suite, or garden access.
The premium can only be charged if there are no standard rooms available at the rest-home, or in any other facility within a 10 kilometre radius.
Consumer NZ says it's fielded similar complaints about the extra charges.
Head of research, Jessica Wilson, is also concerned there's often a false impression the premium rooms provide a higher level of care.
