A court's heard 32 year old Andrew Hunter was spotted by police doing 120 kilometres an hour in Waikari's 60 k speed zone.
Officers turned to follow but soon abandoned their pursuit out of concern for public safety.
He was next spotted by police speeding in Ashburton.
He lost a tyre when he drove over road spikes, but kept driving and was only apprehended when he got stuck in traffic at Tinwald.
Hunter's been remanded in custody for sentencing next month.
