A 31-year-old man's appeared in the Wellington District Court today charged with murdering a five-month-old boy

Police alleged the man wounded with intent to cause grievous bodily harm sometime over a four week period last month before murdering the baby on Monday.

Detective Inspector Grant Wormald says emergency services discovered the boy with serious head injuries on Monday.

Despite surgery, the five-month-old died in Wellington Hospital yesterday.

The 31-year-old's being remanded in custody until his first appearance in the High Court in three weeks.
