FIFA has warned the video assistant referees at the football World Cup will make mistakes

The VAR will be used for the first time at the sports showpiece event in Russia, to help the on-field refs with calls such as off-side.

FIFA's director of refereeing Massimo Busacca says the VAR should improve consistency and alleviate stress from the three on field officials.

However, Busacca says the new set-up may not provide the clarity some fans are hoping for, as ultimately the decision will be made by a person and be open to interpretation.
