Visiting New Zealand is about to get more expensive

Tourism minister Kelvin Davis has announced a new visitor tax of between 25 to 35-dollars..

Other travellers face higher visa fees under proposals aimed at raising money for infrastructure, conservation and immigration costs.

Davis says the extra 57 to 80 million dollars a year raised will be split between tourism infrastructure and conservation.

The levy is likely to be in place by the end of next year.
