A Pukekohe rest home where an elderly man was discovered with maggots in his feet says it's made a number of changes

Palms Lifecare was accused of elder abuse after an 86-year-old resident was found with maggots in his wounds.

The man died in early March.

Heritage Lifecare executive chairman David Renwick told Newstalk ZB correct procedures weren't followed, and the staff responsible for the failings have faced disciplinary action.

He says the rest home has since implemented a comprehensive "Corrective Action Plan".
