Major retailers have pulled ionisation smoke alarms following news they're ineffective

Ionisation smoke alarms are commonly used in homes but a Consumer NZ report reveals they give much less warning of smouldering fires.
Head of testing at Consumer NZ, Dr Paul Smith, says hardware stores Mitre 10, PlaceMakers and Bunnings Warehouse will no longer sell the alarms.
He advises people to fit photoelectric smoke alarms which detect both flames and smoke effectively.
