MetService has issued a severe weather watch for heavy snow across parts of the southern South Island

An active front is moving north across the country tonight and during tomorrow, bringing periods of rain to the western areas.

It is followed by a very cold and unsettled southwesterly flow with snow down to low levels across the southern South Island, and some heavy snow falls down to 400 metres.
