A nursing professor says strike action is highly likely even though it goes against nurses' core values

A second round of mediation between the Nurses Organisation and District Health Boards is underway after pay negotiations last week had no definite outcome.
Strike action is on the table and Massey University professor Jenny Carryer says the prospect has many nurses under enormous stress.
She says striking means abandoning patients ... but DHBs have consistently seen nursing as a cost to be pruned.
Carryer says nurses she's spoken to say they'll strike if they have to.
