Brazil avoid fate of defending champions Germany at the football World Cup

South American heavyweights Brazil have avoided the fate of defending champions Germany at the football World Cup in Russia

Brazil have beaten Serbia 2-nil in Moscow to finish top of Group E, setting up a round of 16 match against Group F runners up Mexico.

Switzerland have secured second spot in the group after a two all draw with Costa Rica and they will face surprise Group F winners Sweden who thumped Mexico 3-nil.

Four times champions Germany have been sensationally dumped out of the tournament, losing 2-nil to South Korea and becoming the fourth holders in the last five World Cups to fail to exit the Group stage.
